Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What caused you to develop visual problems? A I was born 3 months premature and weighed only 1 pound 13 1/2 ounces. My visual ailments are the only remaining health problems Q: What was it like growing up? A: I endured a lot of frustration growing up because of my eye problems. Spending a lot of time at my Optometrists' office engaged in eye-strengthening exercises was an everyday routine. I can remember wearing an eye patch over my left eye to rid myself of double vision. I also had to perform hand-eye coordination exercises at home when not at the doctors. Q: Are your eyes O.K. now? A: I'm thankful everyday that I can see, although it hasn't been easy. I've struggled with surgery after surgery for retinal detachments. I also underwent cataract surgery. Unfortunately, my diagnosis is still heavily guarded by my doctors. So far, my vision has remained stable for 3 years! Q: Why do you have to wear tape on your glasses? A: I developed double vision following a surgical procedure 4 years ago. I now wear a special contact in my left eye to help control the double vision. I no longer have to wear tape on my glasses. Q: How have you remained so strong through all of this? A: I have a wonderful support through my family and friends. I consider myself very fortunate to have such supportive doctors. I have a wonderful partner who supports me in tough times, and likes me for me. He is such a wonderful rock when the waters are rough! =)
